Sometimes, you just have to run

This is a pretty good one, so I’m gonna break it down into chunks…
In the quiet rural hills of Hinsdale, New York, sits a white farmhouse that looks perfectly ordinary from the road. But inside, the Dandy family experienced one of the most chilling hauntings ever recorded in upstate New York.

The Dandy Family Moves In
In 1973, Phil and Clara Dandy moved into the old farmhouse with their four children, hoping for a peaceful life in the country. Almost immediately, things felt off. Strange humming noises filled the air. Lights flickered without cause. The family’s youngest daughter claimed to see “people” in her room at night — people no one else could see.
Then, the activity turned violent.
Escalation
Doors slammed. Furniture moved on its own. The family reported hearing chanting — low, rhythmic voices echoing through the halls late at night. They began to see full apparitions: a woman in white floating outside the windows, shadowy figures moving through the woods, and once, an entire group of people standing silently in the living room before vanishing.
Father Alphonsus Trabold, a Catholic priest from St. Bonaventure University, was called in to bless the home. During his visit, he himself reported objects flying through the air and a heavy sense of “evil” pressing on the house. He performed an exorcism in 1974 — but it only made things worse.
The Final Straw
Soon after, the Dandy children began showing scratches and bruises that appeared overnight. One night, a family member claimed to see a hanging body materialize in the living room. Terrified, the Dandys fled the home, leaving most of their belongings behind.
What Makes It So Unusual
What sets the Hinsdale House apart from other haunted houses is that the activity didn’t stop when the Dandys left. Later owners and paranormal investigators — including the TV show Paranormal Lockdown — have all reported eerie phenomena: unexplainable footsteps, voices captured on recorders, and motion sensors triggering in empty rooms.
Even skeptics who have visited often leave shaken. One former sheriff’s deputy who investigated trespassing calls said, “I don’t believe in ghosts, but I’ll never go in that house again.”
